About

Rafia Hussain Productions is a producer-led company focused on telling Black and Brown stories.

We believe that every story is unique and deserves to be told in the most compelling way possible. From thought-provoking dramas that explore the depths of the human condition, to heartwarming comedies that offer moments of respite, we will curate a diverse slate of projects that celebrate the richness of the cultural heritage of artists from historically excluded backgrounds.

Mission

  • Commission and produce Black and Brown plays, performance art and musicals, ensuring these projects are resourced and well-supported.

  • Cultivate and sustain a thriving network of venues and audiences for Black and Brown work.

  • Develop new Rochdale artists and producers through workshops, mentoring and paid development opportunities.

Values

  • Creativity - we nurture creative potential in professional and pre-professional artists.

  • Environmental Justice - we are mindful in our approach to and relationship with: pay, resources and travel.

  • Social justice - we strive for best practice and for our work to be part of the collective effort to dismantle oppressive systems and build better ones.

  • Education - we believe in knowledge sharing, investment in skills development and telling stories that widen perspectives.

  • Collaboration - we reject traditional theatrical hierarchies and prioritise mutual respect and working towards a shared vision.
